Rodney's Garden Cafe

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA
Cafe entry with timber doors, plants and cafe beyond

Rodney’s Garden Cafe is a haven amongst the garden nurseries of Pialligo on the outskirts of Canberra. It had long outgrown its old kitchen and was in dire need of spreading its wings.

Rodney’s Garden Shop in Pialligo is a much loved Canberra institution. In recent years, the cafe has become has popular as the nursery and it was in dire need of a kitchen upgrade to meet the number of meals lovingly made each day.

Whilst plans had been on the table for some time, the unexpected onset of the pandemic provided a rare opportunity for the kitchen to close to accommodate construction. Work moved up a pace and the kitchen upgrade was expanded to include a new identity for the cafe floor and interface with the nursery beyond.

The final result is an expanded cafe floor that provides a fresh and inviting space to either break from the hectic world of nursery shopping, or become the destination itself. Back of house, the kitchen doubled in size, allowing the team more space to create the meals that have made them the must visit food destination in Pialligo.
